EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

Reporting Fires:

In the event of a fire, immediately alert others. Shout “Fire! Fire!” to notify people in the immediate vicinity.

Evacuation Procedures:

Onsite management to instruct everyone in the area to evacuate immediately using the nearest exit and move to our safe check in location which is the corner of the Reliance covered parking area. You can find this location marked on the emergency fire escape plans located around the shop. The Manager in charge will take attendance to ensure all coworkers and any visitors are accounted for.

Notify Emergency Services:

Dial 9-1-1 to report the fire and provide them with the necessary details. Clearly state the nature of the fire, and follow any instructions given by the operator.

Firefighting Procedures:

If it is safe to do so and the fire is small and contained, attempt to extinguish it using a fire extinguisher.

Fire Extinguisher use:

  • Stand at a safe distance from the fire, ensuring you have a clear exit path.

  • Pull the pin to unlock the extinguisher.

  • Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, not the flames, and squeeze the handle to discharge the extinguishing agent.

  • Sweep the nozzle from side to side, covering the entire fire area until the flames are extinguished.

  • Continue monitoring the are to ensure it does not reignite until emergency personnel have arrived if safe to do so.

Personal safety should always take priority over firefighting efforts. Employees should evacuate if the fire becomes uncontrollable or if their safety is at risk.

Await Further Instructions:

If waiting outdoors for emergency personnel do not re-enter the building until authorized by the emergency personnel. As well, cooperate fully with emergency services and follow their instructions.

Post-Incident Reporting:

Document all details related to the fire incident, including the time, date, location and any observations using the HPZ incident report form.
